Code of Conduct
Thank you for joining us at the 28th Annual Black Solidarity Conference. Choosing to attend the Black Solidarity Conference means being a respectful member of a diverse community throughout the weekend. BSC places special emphasis on the dignity and worth of every person and the love of truth. Attendance carries with it high expectations regarding the ways in which each person will act both on and off campus. In particular, participants are expected to honor the following tenets and commitments in all their actions:
A commitment to treat others in a respectful manner, regardless of differences such as religion, nationality, ethnicity, gender, or sexual orientation.
A commitment to open discourse and the free exchange of ideas.
A commitment to exercise mutual care and responsibility.
A commitment to an active concern for the safety, security, and well-being of each individual and a respect for individual, communal and university property.
A commitment to sexual respect and sensitivity, especially given the content of this year’s conference.
Also, keep in mind that:
The panelists, speakers, and workshop leaders have graciously decided to spend their time educating us this year. Please be respectful of their ideas and time.
Workshops are collaborative environments. Please respect the ideas of your fellow participants, and allow them to express themselves.
BSC brings together people of various and distinct backgrounds. Please respect the backgrounds, ideas, and identities of your fellow participants. Discrimination of any form will not be tolerated.
BSC you will be in a variety of spaces across Yale’s campus. These spaces range from living spaces to classrooms. Respect these spaces in the same fashion that you would on your own campuses. Vandalism will not be tolerated. Pick up after yourselves.
Given the extremely packed nature of this year’s schedule, punctuality is paramount. Be on time to all of the events during Conference! This is particularly important during workshops since they involve collaborative work. Lateness during workshops can inhibit not only your experience, but also the experience of your group.
Emails and app notifications will be sent periodically during Conference. Please be attentive to these notifications by regularly checking your email and Whova app. (Make sure to be engaged on social media during BSC. On Twitter and Facebook, use the hashtags, #BSC2020 and #BlackSolidarityConference)
Other Reminders:
You must be at least 21 years old to consume alcohol in the state of Connecticut.
